Learners will be able/better able to:
- Facilitate a cultural transformation in the clinic that serves to increase patient receptivity to psychological strategies, as well as enhance overall pain treatment effectiveness
- Establish of realistic goals for pain management
- Identify and select patients with pain for consideration of an opioid trial
- Maximizing efficacy while minimizing the risks of opioid therapy
- Counsel patients and caregivers about use, misuse, abuse, diversion, and overdose
- Educate patients about the safe storage and disposal of opioids
- Identify patients for whom non-pharmacologic strategies and interventional therapies may provide great relief or reduce the risk of opioid abuse
